We appreciate those that stopped by the Fat Man’s House! Y’all worked LuLu to a frazzle at our beer tent during the festival. It was good to see her smilin’ face slingin’ beer again…Just like the old days! A HUGE thank you to all of the folks here for the Shag Nationals that came into the BACK ROOM late night on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You’re ALL winners in our book!
This week we want to help you get to know one of our DJs, Jimmy Buffkin. Jimmy is from Florence, SC and is better know around the beach as “Jammin’ Jimmy”. This is third in our new series MEET YOUR FUN TEAM!
Question #1: When did you first come to work at Fat Harold’s, and which club?
Jimmy: April of 2007..here at Fat Harold’s Beach Club (Main Street).
Question #2: When did you start out as a DJ?
Jimmy: October of 1999 at Teddy’s Nightlife in Florence, SC.
Question #3: Describe your funniest interaction with a customer at Fat Harold’s.
Jimmy: One time I had been playing Beach Music all evening..A customer came up to the DJ booth and asked me when I was going to start paying “shag” music! Love it when customers come up humming a tune and ask me who sings it and when am I going to play it!
Question 4: What do you see yourself doing 5 years from now?
Jimmy: Hope to still be playing at Fat Harold’s!
Question #5: How would YOU describe yourself?
Jimmy: Outgoing, happy…and a “people person”.
Question #6: As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
Jimmy: A radio DJ!
Question #7: Your favorite hangout when you were a teenager?
Jimmy: Sky View Drive-In – Florence, SC
Question #8: How long have you been on the beach?
Jimmy: Here a lot through my teen years. Moved here permanently in 2007.
Question #9: Favorite music, dance or band in high school?
Jimmy: My primary love is Beach Music, but love all types of music. Favorite group was the Temptations.
Question #10: What was your first job and how old were you?
Jimmy: Worked at the Winn Dixie at age 16.
Question #11: Funniest thing that ever happened to you in your lifetime?
Jimmy: Playing at Fat Harold’s one night at SOS. Finished up and decided to walk across the street to Ducks to listen to what the other Djs were playing. A funny thing…this is where I me my wife, Bobbie! Ducks…of all places!!!
Question #12: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Jimmy: Collect new music…old music, too. All types of music! Follow the Gamecocks and Duke University sports. Like to walk and enjoy the outdoors.
Question #13: Most embarrassing moment in your lifetime?
Jimmy: This is not embarrassing, but quite unbelievable. I was playing in the back room at Fat Harold’s..playing “Never Too Old To Rock’n’Roll”…and a customer dropped dead. This was my first time playing at Fat Harold’s! I’ll never forget it!!!
Question #14: Is there anything you’d like to do or accomplish in your life that you haven’t already done?
Jimmy: Go to New York City during the Christmas Holiday. DJ at Fat Harold’s one night during SOS fro 9 PM til daylight..and walk home while the sun’s coming up!!
Question #15: Can you share something personal that most folks don’t know about you?
Jimmy: I’m a real clotheshorse! Love expensive clothes!
You’ll see Jimmy in our booth on a regular basis, but it’s not unusual to run into him on Main Street where he likes to stroll with his lovely bride, Bobbie, on his arm.
